About Solomon Freimuth

Who is Solomon Freimuth?

I call myself a foreign investment and expat living consultant. I can’t really think of any better way to explain what I do. By the end of 2012 I will be able to call myself a licensed Mexican attorney, but I have to finish all that first.

Even though I will have a law degree, I might not ever really be the typical Mexican lawyer that people think of. At least not what I think of as a Mexican lawyer.

When I first came to Mexico, I never thought that this would be the path that I’d take. I knew a fair amount about construction and therefore thought that I’d probably stick to that path. There was a big demand for construction knowledge when I got to the Riviera Maya in 2005.

I opened a business doing building management in 2006 and in order to be able to run it I got an FM3. My business partner and I ended up spending over $4000.00 USD to set up our corporation and get our immigration papers in order. The whole process took us 7 months. This planted the seed for my desire to learn more about the legal process in Mexico.

Why did Solomon Freimuth decide to study law in Mexico?

The Mexican legal system has a bit of a reputation for being slow and unhelpful. This reputation is pretty well founded, I think. As a participant in the system for the last few years and as being employed by a law office for a year, I don’t think there is any fault to be laid with anyone in particular. I used to think that the lawyers and were to blame. This is why I started to study law in Mexico, I thought I could do it better.

I decided to study law and become the go-to attorney for every expat in the Riviera Maya, if not all of Mexico. Who better than a foreigner to help the expats get their business done?

While I still want to make helping expats my first priority, I no longer have that cocky attitude about doing it better than the rest of the Mexican attorneys. In fact, after working with some incredible and competent Mexican attorneys I had to re-adjust my ideas about what I can do for the expat community.

I specialize in immigration, business and property matters

The Mexican legal system is diverse and complex. There is no way anyone can be an expert in all fields. I certainly can’t be. I study business, property and immigration law because they pertain to me and to the people who I want as clients. I don’t pretend to be an expert on anything else.

By going to law school here in the Riviera Maya I have had the opportunity to meet and be instructed by a lot of really exceptional attorneys who specialize in various different areas of Mexican law. I am lucky enough to count on this network of lawyers from which I can pick the correct council for clients that need help from an area of the law that I am not familiar with.
